14 years in partnership with airbus

How Obstacle Studios became a long-term storytelling partner to one of the world's most complex businesses.

This is the story of 14 years of partnership, multiple global campaigns, travel across six continents, delivery of 1000s of films, the most-viewed film in Airbus history and (some of) our secrets for enterprise B2B storytelling.

Since 2012, Obstacle has helped Airbus change perceptions of aircraft, humanise a global organisation, open up the space economy and inspire the next generation of pilots and engineers. Different audiences. Different formats. One repeatable approach.

THE CHALLENGE

Aerospace is full of extraordinary stories hidden inside technical complexity. The buyer may be an airline executive assessing a fleet. The audience may be a future pilot deciding whether they belong in the cockpit. The subject may be a global workforce, an emerging space technology or the experience of stepping onto a new aircraft.

The communications challenge is rarely to explain more. It is to find the human truth that makes the information matter.

The Obstacle approach

We begin with advisory: what must change, for whom, and what will that audience trust? Then our expert team turns the answer into emotive filmmaking, combining the right contributors, casting, cinematography, interviews, music and pace. Finally, we design distribution into the idea from the beginning, creating hero films, original series, documentaries, trailers and social assets with a clear role for every format.

This is how one A220 campaign became Airbus's most-watched commercial film, generating 9.9M views worldwide. It is why A220: The Maverick and A330neo: The Heir Apparent put customers and experts on screen: credible people made the aircraft proposition more persuasive than product claims alone.

turn human truth into recruitment content that connects

For Airbus Flight Academy, Obstacle Studios transformed a complex global recruitment challenge into The Sky Chasers: an authentic, social-first campaign built around real cadets, their personalities, ambitions and communities.

Combining audience insight, creative strategy, sensitive casting and cinematic production, we created emotionally compelling films that spoke to a new generation without compromising Airbus’s premium global brand.

We delivered a hero film, six supporting films and over 550 deliverables proving our ability to turn human truth into powerful recruitment content at enterprise scale. All with one accountable partner from strategy and writing through to production and delivery.

Emotional intelligence is our operating system

For 365, we travelled to 12 countries across six continents during a 52-day production to capture one day in the life of Airbus. Documentary intimacy, epic scale and an original orchestral score created the company's first global documentary. It remained Airbus's principal brand film for two years.

make complex technology understandable

Shooting for the Stars applied the same instinct to the UK space economy. By following three start-ups through an Airbus accelerator, we made complex technologies understandable through the ambition, uncertainty and personality of the people building them.

The result

Fourteen years of being trusted with the next difficult brief, to earn enterprise trust, work across technically demanding environments, produce at global scale and turn a single strategic idea into a complete content system.

If an audience must believe before it buys, joins or invests, Obstacle brings the disciplines together. Advisory that finds the story, production earns attention and distribution ensures lasting value.

Obstacle Studios helps organisations decide what must change, make people feel why it matters, and build stories that keep working after the first watch.
