Creative heart series: victoria causley, founder of empowerperiods
Our Creative Heart Series brings together direct perspectives from those at the heart of their sectors on the role of emotion in storytelling.
Victoria Causley a Writer & Advocate for Women’s Health. She founded EmpowerPeriods in order to break the stigma surrounding menstrual health. EmpowerPeriods paves the way for inclusive conversations in workplaces, universities, and beyond.
We're thrilled to have Victoria share with us how emotion and storytelling play roles in her work.
1. Why does storytelling need emotion?
To speak to the right people. When I share my sometimes emotional journey of getting an endometriosis diagnosis, I know it will reach those who can relate and help them feel less alone.
2. Why is emotional intelligence important in your work?
Being able to understand and respond to the people you speak to is so important. Women’s health can be deeply personal, and everyone’s journey is different. We’re here to support people in persevering to find their answers, and that takes a lot of empathy.
3. Which storyteller has influenced your career the most and why?
I’m inspired by people who make their mark in their own way—finding a gap and filling it with something impactful. Grace Beverley’s 'Working Hard' podcast is one I listen to most, and I consistently take value from her storytelling around growing through your twenties and building something for yourself.
